The MAME team released MAME 0.87, the "Pretty SPI / Hyperstone starts working" version. The updated MAME32 and the new version of the MAME history database are available as well.

R.Belmont was quite busy the last days. He continued work on M1, MAME and ZiNc and the latest update are nice looking screenshots from a Sega Model2 (B & C) driver for MAME.

Charles MacDonald made amazing progress analyzing the encryption of the Sega System16 games. :)

Roman Scherzer released ClrMAME Pro v3.43 with tweaks and fixes.

The diff-file to patch MAME to v081u8u9 is now available at Haze's and the busy guys at the MAME32QA page also compiled a windows binary for you.

The Guru is back online after changing ISPs and he got a nice bunch of pcbs to work on.

Damn, another two weeks without an update :( I'm really sorry about this, my workload is really heavy right now. Anyway, I'll try to catch up now :)

Gridle updated the MAME WIP page!

The MAME history database is now up to v0.81d!

The diff-file for MAME v0.81u5 is now released at Haze's! If you're too lazy to compile your own MAME version then take a look at the MAME32QA page which provides a precompiled MAME32 v0.81u5!

xMAME v0.81.1 has been released.

Leezer released the unofficial hiscore.dat v8.3 for MAME.

Roman Scherzer released ClrMAME Pro v3.25a with these new features:

  • fixed: sometimes Windows doesn't update a rompath's date/time stamp when using a disabled preserve archive date/time.
  • fixed: rebuilder logfile will be overwritten by each addpath (when using log + addpaths)
  • misc: minor taskswitching changes / sourcode cleanup / speedincrease

Two new MAME versions were released today and yesterday. Get the diff-updates for v0.80u2 and u3 here!

The MAME history database is now up to v0.80d!

Tux released Raine v0.40 which adds support for 15 new games and fixes a couple of minor bugs.

The Guru got a lot of new toys recently to play with. :)

Wow, time flies... I'm sorry for not updating earlier but I try to catch up now.

Roman Scherzer released ClrMAME Pro v3.25 with these new features:

  • fixed: zlib 1.2.1 has some rare unzip problems (fixed by Cowering)
  • fixed: listing a bad 0 checksum when unzip fails
  • fixed: "move not renamed sets to backup" is broken
  • fixed: enabled rom-analysis-fix with disabled crc32 check causes freeze
  • misc: using zlib's 1.2.1 crc32 routine which seems to be faster
  • misc: linked with updated ziparchive class including zlib 1.2.1
  • misc: revised several renaming operations

ElSemi released Nebula v2.24 with these changes:

  • NEOGEO: Fixed all the neogeo roms to match MAME romsets (Thanks to Wesker from Speksnk for the work).
  • NEOGEO: Fixed kof98 protection (delete old kof98.srm files from your config folder if you are still getting the red letters)
  • GENERAL: Added HQ2x plugin (includes src in plugins\hq2xsrc.zip)

The MAME team released MAME v0.80 and MAME32 v0.80 is available as well.

Fabien Autrel posted some new WIP screenshots from his Sega Saturn/ST-V emulator Satourne!

Aaron made more progress on the Gaelco 3D driver for MAME, both Radical Bikers and Surf Planet are now working!

Sixtoe updated System16.com, the ultimate arcade game reference website!

Kawaks v1.49 has been released at CPS2Shock! The new features are:

  • New drivers: The King of Fighters 2001 (alternate set), Samurai Shodown III (set 2)
  • Changed some 29 Neogeo game ROMs to match ROMs needed by MAME 079u4.
  • Fixed alt-m from crashing kawaks when no game was loaded.
  • Changed some warning massages from 'no romset loaded' to 'no game loaded'.

The diff-file for MAME v0.79u4 is now available at Haze's and you can get a MAME32 version as well.

Aaron Giles fixed a bug in the TMS32031 core that was causing problems with Radikal Bikers!

The Guru updated the Model3 dump status page and added a ZN1/ZN2 protection chip status page!

Roman Scherzer released ClrMAME Pro v3.24 with more deep analysis checks for roms!

Roman Scherzer released ClrMAME Pro v3.23 which introduces some deep ROM checksum analysis to fix some 'bad' checksums which are based on effects like padding, blockswaps, byteorder changes, etc...!

Lots of MAME WIP news:

  • Norbert Kehrer wrote his second MAME driver. The game he emulated is "Mad Alien" (Data East, 1980) and he is looking for some help from people who know the game and can answer a couple of questions.

  • R.Belmont updated his website with MAME and M1 news and a request.

  • Haze added "Botanic", an old Valadon game to MAME.

  • Aaron is still busy with the Gaelco 3D games and makes good progress.

  • Dox posted some development news from the MAME drivers he's working on.

  • And last but not least, Santeri updated the MAME WIP page as well.

Again a hude delay between updates, please excuse! Work keeps me very busy at the moment.

Tuz released Raine v0.39.3 with these new features:

  • Fixed the bug in level 3 of magical cat adventure, thanks to Paul Priest
  • 2 sf2 clones had exactly the same long name. Fixed thanks to Logiqx (really too many clones in this driver)
  • Haze added 2 new games : Cookie and Bibi 2 and More More Plus. More more + is probably one of the crazyest games emulated so far!

Kawaks v1.48 was released with these new features:

  • New drivers: Art of Fighting 2 (set 2), Fight Fever (alternate set), Fatal Fury Special (set 2), The King of Fighters '96 (set 2), The King of Fighters '97 Plus (bootleg), The King of Fighters '98: The Slugfest (Korean M1), Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy (set 2), Robo Army (alternate set)
  • Added the ability to change gamma settings (video menu).
  • Updated 'Robo Army' and 'Sengoku 2' ROMs to match MAME.
  • Renamed XMVSFU to XMVSFUR1.
  • Renamed ARMWAR to ARMWARR1.

If you like to compile your own MAME version then you'll be happy to know that Haze released the diff-file to compile MAME 0.78u1 with these new additions!

I nearly missed this newsbit about the ZiNc emulator. Appearantly the authors decided to stop development of ZiNc after the next and final verison is released. Read more about this on Emuhype!

Merry christmas to you all, many many thanks for your continued support! 2003 was a very busy year for me, I had lots of work deadlines and unfortunately SYS2064 had to suffer from this. I'm sure that 2004 will be kinder to me and I will have more time to dedicate to arcade emulation and SYS2064 which needs a major overhaul badly. If you like to drop a note then please feel free, lately it seems that I mostly get rom requests. ;o)
