What's new in the cheat engine since the 15th of January 1999

General :

  Max. loaded cheats : 200
  Max. active cheats : 15
  Number of watches  : 20

  New type of cheat 998 :
    This is used by =22watch-only=22 cheats (such as the answer of a quiz
    in FAX); it is included in the watch-list when it is activated.
    It can support the additional description (+), which can't be edited
    though ....

  Position of the menus are saved.
  Keyboard problems should be fixed (else send me an e-mail)
  The cheat engine fully supports rotation and flip.


Keys used by the cheat engine while you are playing :

  'F5' toggles the cheats ON/OFF (the display lasts for half a second)
  'Del' doesn't display the watches
  'Ins' displays the watches if any
  'Home' is a shortcut to the main menu of the cheat engine
  'End'  is a shortcut to the =22Continue Search=22 sub-menu
  (if no search was on, you'll
 access to the =22Start Search=22 sub-menu)


Keys used when you are editing a text (cheat (more) description,
filename or address) :

  'Left/Right arrow' moves the cursor one char. left/right
  'Home/End' moves the cursor at the begining/end of the text
  'BackSpace' dels the char. before the cursor
  'Ins' inserts a space at the cursor position (cursor doesn't move)
  'Del' erases all the text


Adding cheats from many files :

  The first filename will be used by the I/O.
  Delimiter between each filename is a semi-colon (;)
  Line must not exceed 127 chars in MAME.CFG.

  Example: cheatfile=3DMYFILE.DAT;CHEAT.DAT;CHEAT=5FUP.DAT;LAKNEO.DAT

    This will load all the cheats from these 4 databases and the F6 key in=

    the 'Load' menu will save all the cheats to MYFILE.DAT.


Menus :

'Load And/Or Enable A Cheat' :

  The number of cheats displayed per page depends on the vertical
  resolution of the game.
  Press Shift+F7 to activate all the cheats in a row.

  Edit cheat (F3) :
    Press F3 to edit the address of the cheat (possible keys are 0 to 9
    and A to F as well as cursor-related keys)
    Press Home to sub 100 to the type of the cheat (for linked cheats)
    Press End to add 100 to the type of the cheat (for linked cheats)


'Start A New Cheat Search' :

  Possibility to select a starting value for all methods of search.

    'Change Search Speed' :

      'Select Memory Areas' :
        This menu allows you to select the memory areas which will be
        scanned when you start/continue a search.
        Press Enter to select/unselect the highlighted memory area.
        Press F6/F7 to select/unselect all memory areas.
        Press F12 to have more info about the highlighted memory area.
        Press Tab to go back to the 'Change Search Speed' menu.


'Continue Search' :

  The number of matches displayed per page depends on the vertical
  resolution of the game.
  Press F1 to add the highlighted match to the list of cheats.
  Press F2 to add the highlighted match to the list of watches.
  Press F6 to add all the matches to the list of cheats.
  Press F8 to add all the matches to the list of watches.


'View Last Results' :

  The number of matches is now correct, as well as their contents.
  Same new functionnalities as the 'Continue Search' menu.


'Restore Previous Results' :

  Restore the results of the previous search.
  You must perform at least one 'Continue Search' between each
  selection of this menu.


'Memory Watch' :
  The current watch is highlighted.
  There is less space between the watches, so more of them can be
  visible at the same time while you are playing.
  Press F3 to edit the address of the highlighted watch (possible keys are=

  0 to 9 and A to F as well as cursor-related keys)


'General help' :

  This will display the contents of the CHEAT.HLP file.
  This file is a text file in which lines must not exceed 30 chars.
  It shouldn't be released with any version of MAME =21 As soon as it
  is finished, it will be included with the cheat databases.
