- Feel free to send me comments on my rant on N64 emulation (featured below)!
- Since everybody voices his opinion on whether N64 emulation is a good or an evil thing for emulation, I'd like to drop my two cents to the whole matter:
I don't understand the public outcry when it comes to N64 emulation. A lot of people claim that the system is too new to be emulated but hey, the N64 came out more then two years ago! Everybody keeps his fingers crossed for Connectix to win the suit against Sony and is still busy awaiting Bleem - so, what makes the emulation of Playstation games better then the emulation of the N64? Is it just the fact that everybody can copy his own Playstation cds?
Another point that is often mentioned: "...but these roms are making money right now they shouldn't be emulated..."! Well, PSX cds are now on sale too and what most people don't mention: Color Gameboy roms are more recent then most N64 games! During the last few months 30+ CGB roms were released and a lot of sites carry them regardless of the fact that Nintendo is making money of them right now! Color Gameboy emulators were the state of the art a couple of days ago which everybody praised and now an N64 emulator suddenly is bad news for emulation? No way!
And can somebody please tell me the difference between the latest NeoGeo games and N64 games? Not so long ago nearly everybody was craving for the release of the "KOF '98" roms and even now a lot of people keep asking for "Last Blade 2" and "Shock Troopers 2" to be released. To compare this again with the N64 you should keep in mind that most games on the N64 are much older then these NeoGeo roms! What is so damn special about the N64???
I think the only problem with N64 emulation is the fact that the roms for it are not so widespread as the roms for virtually *every* other system! Almost noone has access to a copier and nobody looked for N64 roms because they were to huge to download (and to be carried in rom archives on the net) and not worth the time and money because they wouldn't be emulated anyway. And now all of a sudden an emulator emerged and people go crazy. Well, what did you expect ? When most people had some roms to test the emulator there wouldn't be so many negative voices regarding Ultra right now - just the praise that it deserves!
To close this whole rant, I'd like to thank Epsilon and RealityMan for showing us that the impossible is possible and I hope that Ultra is not dead yet! Don't be discoraged by Nintendo - emulators are legal!
- Back to great arcade emulation news: The second batch of romsets for the upcoming version of Raine is now available on Arcade Rom Heaven and Emu Views! I will mirror the roms tomorrow since I am very busy today, sorry!

- The nice guys from Emulators Unlimited have been taunting us for some days with the release of a new next generation emulator and now they opened the website of the worlds first Nintendo64 emu which runs commercial games! Usually I don't report non-arcade emulation stuff here, but UltraHLE is an emulator which you should at least take a look at! Click here to jump directly to UltraHLE's homepage!
And the very best thing about this N64 emulator is the fact that it creates a great diversion for arcade emulation because now everybody will start hosting and hunting N64 roms and maybe classic arcade games will have some more room to breathe! :-))

- Thanks to Francisco Villar, here is the translation of EmuSpain's newsbit regarding NeoGem:
"We have news on NEO-Gem, the NEO-GEO Emulator written by the spanish Han and Kray :), here is what we have received directly from the E-Mail: "Speaking of NEOGem, I spend some time on Christmas removing some Bugs, added zipped Rom Support, managed to speed things up a bit and am currently working on the YM2610 emulation. I optimised the Motorola->Z80 communication and at last the Z80 sends me some music data. Although the emulation of the YM2610 is very preliminary some thing like Drums, Sfx etc can be heard. It still lacks FM Emulation of the Yamaha Chip, what seems to be most difficult. Sidewinder Support is still lacking due to lack of time but I will try it as soon as a new version is about to come ;-)." Very soon the Homepage of NEOGEM will return when the Server is complete ? It will also have an own subdomain: neogem.emuspain.com cool isn`t it? :)" !

- I added the Exiting Soccer (alternate music) set and fixed the link to the Pocket Gal (Bootleg) set on my MAME v0.35b1 rompage! More sets later today, it is 4am here right now and I am going to sleep :-)! Big thanks to everybody who wrote in to help me with the sets!
- Coy's Dumps released two new unemulated arcade romsets: "Shinobi" (The System16A version, not the System16B version which is already around) and an unknown game which is probably called "Olympia"!
- EmuSpain has got some news on the NeoGeo emulator NeoGem. I don't speak Spanish but it looks like support for zipped romsets and early sound effects were added! Read the whole newsbit on EmuSpain and if you like, send me a translation!

- Arcade Roms from Japan released a couple of very small, new and unemulated romsets: "Dottori Kun", "Minivader" and "Arcadia" and *drumroll* a home-brewn arcade game: "Mine Sweeper"!
- No arcade emulation news right now but if you like you can try the "leaked" beta version of the upcoming Playstation emulator Bleem. Personally, I'd rather try the new version of No$Gmb (v2.0), a great Gameboy emulator!

- My ISP had some major problems today so I wasn't able to update SYS2064 for a couple of hours :-((!
- I finally added a very useful MAME utility to my utilities page: ClrMAME for Windows beta 3! Roman Scherzer's ClrMAME is a very useful tool to handle the romsets supported by MAME! With ClrMAME you can: merge/unmerge the romsets, scan for unneeded/missing files, correct the spelling of the roms and fix the filelenghts of roms that are too big! You should try ClrMAME!
- Coy's Dumps released a couple of new unemulated romsets: "Space Bird (bootleg)", "Sky Wolf (bootleg)", "Scramble", "Homo Sapiens?", "Cabaret v2.04" and "1999"!
- Zan updated his "How to complile MAME v0.34" page - why don't you take a look and try to compile your own version of MAME ?
- Two more games were added to Raine and are fully playable with sound: "Camel Try" (Taito, 1989) and "Cybattler" (Jaleco, 1993)! Take a look at screenshots on the official homepage!

- It seems that Thierry and Nao ran into some problems with Allegro and they released yet another version of their System16 emulator today! The version number now is v0.82a - to make sure that you got the latest version make sure that the file size of the zipfile now is 375kb! The updated emulator is available here or on my System16 page!
