Friday, 29. September 2000

  • The Virtua (very early Sega Model 2 emulator) homepage has been updated with screenshots of Manx TT and Virtua Cop working with problems in the emulator. Many thanks to Opi / Retrogames for the mail!

  • The MAME highscore database has been updated to v5.0 and now it supports 910 games!

  • Gridle added MAME development news from the last 9 days to the MAME WIP page!

  • Off topic: The great Smashing Pumpkins released a "farewell" album called "Machina II / The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music" two weeks ago. The album (5 discs: 2 12" and three 10" EPs) was limited to 25 copies worldwide but luckily the recipients were told to circulate the 25 new songs on the internet as fast as possible. Read the whole story and get lots of download mirrors at SPFC.org!

Monday, 25. September 2000

  • Roman Scherzer released ClrMAME Pro v1.8b which fixes a small problem:

    • fixed rebuilder (better handling of a MAME related bug)

  • Dave released Final Burn v0.021 with these additions:

    • Adjusted the sensitivity of the joystick. You should now get better accuracy in aiming, but you have to try harder to do a barrel roll now (which should be more like the arcade).
    • Improved the way input and pausing is done
    • Fixed the keyboard input so that it slides the analog stick at the same rate, no matter what the frame rate is like.

  • Haze compiled another new version of Raine v0.24sept2000a which disables the Maniac Square driver and he posted a short explanation on the Raine homepage!

Sunday, 24. September 2000

  • The Arcade Flyer Archive released MAME Flyer Pack #13 which adds 16 new images and replaces 2!

  • The Guru managed to redump some missing/bad roms in the following romsets: Chequered Flag, Mission 660, AlphaxZ and a different version of Street Smart as well! Read the whole newsbit at The Guru's database!

  • Haze compiled a new version of Raine which adds support for Sengoku Ace, Gunbird, Biomechanical Toy and Maniac Square (drivers by Eugenio Derenzi)! Please read the included textfile and thanks to EmuHQ for the news!

Saturday, 23. September 2000

  • Team Japump took a closer look at the japanese versions of these arcade boards: Othello Shiyouyo (Success, 1998, ST-V system), Tekken (Ver.B, Namco, 1994, Namco System11), Eight Forces (Tecmo 1994), Super Street Fighter II - The New Challengers - (Ver.931005 & 930911, Capcom, 1993, CPS2) and Rezon (Allumer, 1991)! Wednesday, 20. September 2000

  • Dave released Final Burn v0.020! which adds: "Changed the scanlines method back so only one blit is done (probably more reliable in the long run), mainly because blitting each scanline is too slow in DirectDraw. Unfortunately, some of you may have some vertical banding effects. Try disabling the bilinear filter on your video card. I'll have a think about how to sort this one out." Again thanks to Pete for the quick news!

  • IMPORTANT: My old mail-address (sys2064@gmx.de) is no longer valid, please use this address from now on: till@sys2064.com!

  • Lopantu released Laser v0.11a which now features complete sound in Space Invaders (the saucer sound was missing before)!

  • Somebody called Fox released a new version of Raine a couple of days ago which adds support for the game "Guwange" by Cave! Download this release here and I'll try to find out on which Raine version (official or WIP release) it is based on. Thanks to EmuViews for the news!

  • Here are more NeoGeo MVS development news (thanks to NeoGeo Freak): Aruze announced the development of Last Blade 3 as well as the new "Super Giga Boards" which should be able to handle twice the memory of the original GIGA boards and chipsets! Many thanks to Retrogames for the news!

  • Is this a new record? Dave released 3 new versions of Final Burn while I was asleep and the latest version is Final Burn v0.019! The new additions are:

    • v0.019: Fixed the engine sound - it was to do with looping samples. I also increased the accuracy of the PCM emulation - the Vulcan gun now sounds better I think.
    • v0.018: Blanked out the incorrect engine sound, to save our poor ears for the time being...
    • v0.017: Changed the scanlines method (to avoid vertical banding effects on cards which do bilinear filtering).

Many thanks to Pete for the news!

  • Lopantu announced that another release might be released soon. ;-)

  • Roman Scherzer released ClrMAME Pro v1.8a which fixes these bugs:

    • fixed: wrong displayed fastscan progressbar
    • fixed: rare number-of-system-displaying-problems
    • fixed: rare crash when using a non-mame-engine and dropping files in scan-results window

Friday, 15. September 2000

  • Matt Ownby released a new version of his Dragon's Lair / Space Ace emulator Daphne v0.99.1 (build 12 Sep 2000) a couple of days ago! Unfortunately Matt has no complete changelog but he mentioned these changes in this release:

    • You can now use a real Dragon's Lair scoreboard if you have one. This is one step closer to removing the original hardware from a Dragon's Lair machine and replacing it with DAPHNE. Robert DiNapoli has already done this with his Dragon's Lair. In fact, he sold his motherboard, power supply and wiring harness!
    • Linux version now performs as good as, or better, than Windows version. All graphics and sounds supported.
    • Timing has been fixed. In previous version DAPHNE displayed inaccuracies for very long scenes such as the Space Ace attract mode and the river barrel ride in Dragon's Lair. Timing is now "perfect" (at least as perfect as we humans can detect).
    • LED's have been fixed. A few of the numbers above 9 were in the wrong order.
    • DVD works for us developers, but we haven't released it to the public yet because the DVD decoders out on the market today... well they basically suck. They play DVD ok but their seeking is HORRIBLE. Dragon's Lair demands precise seeking and instant playback once a play command is issued. The DVD solutions (including the offerings from Sigma Designs) cannot handle these requirements. We are watching the Livid project to see what they can come up with (seeking does not need to be fast, only accurate). Robert D. is working on porting his DVD-ROM to mpeg1 format and we plan to use SMPEG (from the folks at Loki Software) for playback under Windows and Linux.
    • More presets have been added. Presets are basically shortcuts for setting options on Dragon's Lair or Space Ace. It eliminates the need to fiddle with dip switches and other things the end-user doesn't care about.

  • Team Japump was busy again and focused their attention at: Nouryoku Koujou Iinkai (1995, Tecmo), Super Muscle Bomber - The International Blowout - (JPN Ver, 1994, Capcom), Marvel Super Heroes (JPN Ver, 1995, Capcom) and redumps of: Thunder Cross 2 (JPN Ver.), War of Aero - project MEIOU - and Soldam (JPN Ver.)!

  • Looks like Namco released three single emulators for Dragon Buster, Sky Kid Deluxe and the previously unemulated Libble Rabble but you need to buy them before you can download them from this website! Thanks to Retrogames for the news!

  • JoseQ interviewed Randy Hoffman, a MAMEdev member and the webmaster of MAME Targets! Read the interview here!

  • Speaking of MAME Targets, Randy updated the site today as well. He fixed a couple of bugs in existing pages and added pages for EOLITH and Exidy.!

Thursday, 14. September 2000

  • Roman Scherzer released ClrMAME Pro v1.8 with these new features:

    • misc: External engine/bios definitions. ClrMamePro doesn't use any hardcoded engine or bios definitions anymore. All needed information can be found in an external file 'engine.cfg'. Scanmodes and rebuildermodes have been changed, too. You can't choose between 'arcade, both and neogeo only' anymore. Instead you have to check the biossets you want to check. Same for rebuilder. If using this cmpro for the first time, you have to check our current parserengine settings.
    • misc: activating missing-check will automatically activate name-check, too.
    • misc: missing bios sets will be listed.
    • misc: useless clones in full merge mode will be listed (set + unneeded has to be activated)
    • misc: reporting of share-violation errors

    • fixed: import mame.cfg (a little relative paths issue) (1.7a)
    • misc: cmpro's temporary folder is now \temp. A lot users had problems when it pointed to some default Windows-Temporary-Folders. I decided to remove the tempfolder selector. Don't place important files in \temp because cmpro will empty this folder ! (1.7a)
    • misc: crc0 creation (dummy file creation) speed increase (1.7a)

  • katharsis released a new WIP version of Raine (v20000819) with these new additions:

    • Kiki Kai Kai and Knight Boy now finally work correctly due to the help of Kayamon! He discovered a bug within GCC 2.9x which basically caused the problems. I tried to find a workaround but everything I've done to fix the Kiki Kai Kai problems caused the Taito F3 system games to crash so I had finally to switch back to GCC 2.81. This also caused the delay of the WIP updates because after a few changes I made to the source I didn't get Raine to compile anymore, which really got me into trouble, but now finally everthing is fixed, and Raine now has definitely less bugs that before =)
    • Boukichi added Play Girls 1 & 2 to the Taito L-System driver.
    • Tormod Tjaberg added Bubble Bobble 2 which is a clone of Bubble Symphony.
