JROK merged his great single-game emulators: Dig Dug 2, Gaplus, Mappy and Super Pacman into one multi-game emulator! In addition he added Galaga 3 (a Gaplus clone) and two new games: Pacland and Sky Kid!

JROK's emulations are always perfect and he recommends a P100 for all games except for Sky Kid which needs 'more power' :-)

 Juno First Emulator

Track and Field

Programmed by:
Chris Hardy

Web site:
Homepage

Download the latest version v1.23 [12. February 1998]

Sound Samples

Supported Games and Screenshots

The name of this emulator is a bit confusing because it does not only emulate the game Juno First (and its bootleg) but quite few few more games, too! Take a look at screenshot of all emulated games here.

Juno First and Tutankham are playable and have sound with the help of samples...Crystal Castles doesn't run, though... Later on Chris added support for two great Decathlon-Games: Track and Field and Hyper Sports!!!! There is no music yet, but both games are very playable! Be sure to buy an extra keyboard/joystick because these devices must endure quite a lot while you play those games. :-)

The newest additions are R-Type I and II, Rock and Rope and Circus Charlie (two different romsets). Please take a look at the screenshots. :-)

Version 1.22 adds the game: The Legend of Hero Tonma!

Please keep in mind that you need samples for a few games, so get them here!

 KEM - (The Killer Emulator)

Discs of Tron

Programmed by:
Michael Cuddy

Web site:
Homepage

Download the latest version v1.10 [11. July 1997]

Michael Cuddy started out with two individual emulators for two fantastic games, Gyruss and Time Pilot. When he saw the possibility to add more games by slightly modifiing the code, he took a short break from the public and resurfaced presenting this great multi-game emulator!

KEM currently supports 17 games: Blue Print, Demolition Derby, Discs of Tron, Domino Man, Gyruss, Journey, Kickman, Pooyan, Rampage, Satan's Hollow, Solar Fox, Tapper, Timber, Time Pilot, Tron, Two Tigers and Wacko! Most of them run flawless on a normal Pentium system - you need VESA 2.0 to get acceptable speed though.

KEM has been merged with the Cinematronics emulator and EMU into Retrocade!

 Mapefer 3

Ghost's Goblins

Programmed by:
José Tejada Gómez

Web site:
Homepage

Download the latest version v0.80B [03. October 1997]

Although Ghost'n Goblins and Diamond Run are emulated quite fine by MAME, I decided to feature Mapefer3 because of its very fast gameplay. On my P100 the emulation is so fast, it feels like playing on steroids! :)

Jose claims that the colors in Ghosts'n Goblins are closer to the arcade then the colors in MAME, but Mapefer 3 doesn't support sound yet.
Jose implemented one often requested feature: You can save the game by pressing the spacebar and load the game by pressing F6...I don't like this, because you can't save in the arcade either...

Recently Jose released Grytra, a single-game emulator for Konami's classic 'Gryzor' aka 'Contra'!

 MGE - (Multi-Gauntlet-Emulator)

Gauntlet

Programmed by:
Neill Corlett

Web site:
No Homepage

Download the latest version v0.471 [11. September 1997]

"Yellow Wizard is now IT" or "Blue Warrior shot the food" - if this doesn't bring back any memories you're either dead or wrong on this webpage :-)

Gauntlet was one of the first and finest multiplayer games I can remember... Up to four players enter a dungeon filled with treasures and evil beings... grab all you can, shoot fast and reach for the exit - hehe... you see, Blizzards DIABLO is just a Gauntlet Clone :)

Neill Corletts MGE supports Gauntlet and its sequel, accordingly named Gauntlet 2 :) ... It has early sound (and voice!) support and the gameplay is fantastic. MGE lets all 4 players play the game and has accurate colors!

Unfortunately MGE is no longer under development, but take a look at MAME for Gauntlet I and II and more Atari System One & Two games!

 Replay+

Bump'n Jump

Programmed by:
Kevin Brisley

Web site:
Homepage

Download the latest version v1.00 [24. June 1998]

Kevin finally released the first version of Replay+! Currently supported are Amidar, Bump'n'Jump, Burgertime, Lock'n'Chase, Pac & Pal, Robocop, Super Pac-Man and Turtles (all with their variants). Although this is a major cutback in the number of supported games when compared to the last version (v0.04) of Replay which had 179 supported romsets, but new games should be easy to add, so stay tuned for future versions! Other great features are Netplay and a great GUI :) Here the full list of features:

  • Written in C++ with a variety of C & ASM CPU cores.
  • Support for 6502, Z80, 6809 and 68000 CPUs.
  • Support for many classic arcade games from the 70's, 80's.
  • Hi Score saving for all games.
  • Game Saving/Loading for all games.
  • Movie Record/Playback for all games.
  • Network play for all games.
  • Global/Local key configuration.
  • Auto-saving of key configuration.
  • Auto-saving of dip switch settings.
  • A new fancy front-end.
  • Screen Rotation/Flipping at any time at the touch of a key.
  • Built-in support for cocktail modes.
  • A developer's version with full source code.
  • An integrated debugger for stepping through emulated CPUs (developer's).
  • Game driver shared library support in Unix.
  • Much more

Matthew Smith

Download the latest version v1.02 [29. June 1998]

Retrovaders emulates (like Sideway) some real arcade classics from Midway from the late 70s. I didn't test Retrovaders yet, but here are the features straight from the supported Read.Me file: "Color and sound support has been added for most games. Some games which MAME doesn't use sound for actually use the basic invaders sound!"

Sideway emulates some real arcade classics from Midway from the late 70s. Currently working are: Boot Hill, Gun Fight, Seawolf and various Space Invaders games!

The emulator is in very early stages of development and needs samples for sound. You can take a look at MAME to see a complete emulation of Boot Hill and Seawolf 2.

 Vector Dream

Programmed by:
Peter Hirschberg

Web site:
No Homepage

Download the latest version v2.3 [24. April 1998]

Vector Dream is a unique emulator for Vector-games. It adds a lot of features that other emulators lack and i urge you to try it for yourself!

Peter's ultimate aim with Vector Dreams is to emulate *all* available vector games :-) Currently there are six games supported: Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Battle Zone, Lunar Lander, Red Baron and Tempest. The emulator is discontinued because he joined the Retrocade team.

xDragon - the Data East emulator

Robocop

Programmed by:
Nicolas Hamel and David Michel

Web site:
Homepage

Download the latest version v0.30 [07. May 1998]

Supported Games and Screenshots

xDragon supports 5 DataEast games: Bad Dudes VS Dragon Ninja, Dragon Ninja (jap version of Bad Dudes), Midnight Resistance, Robocop and Sly Spy!

The games run ok with full frames on a normal Pentiumand all games feature nearly full music and sound and accurate colors. Although I never saw these games in an arcade, I really enjoy playing them now :-)

 ZEMy

Wonderboy in Monsterland

Programmed by:
Bernat Arlandis Mañó and Juan Arnal Arlandis

Web site:
Homepage

Download the latest version v0.001 [02. June 1998]

ZEM is the second Sega System 8 emulator along with Roberto Venturas emulator. ZEM currently emulates: Pitfall II, Wonderboy Deluxe and Wonderboy in Monsterland. I used to play the arcade and the Master System version of Wonderboy in Monsterland so often, I can't count all the hours or coins spent.

The emulation is still in beta version, so don't expect a 100% release. The speed is ok on my P100 and the colors seem to be perfect. There is no sound yet and some bugs are still present.

Anyway, the emulator looks promising and I anxiously await the next version!
